How the Second Catch Marketplace Works
Second Catch is a secure marketplace built to make buying and selling pre-owned fishing gear simple, transparent, and reliable.
Buying on Second Catch
1. Browse & Buy with Confidence
Explore verified listings across rods, reels, tackle, and accessories. Each listing includes standardized photos, condition details, and clear pricing, so buyers know exactly what they are purchasing.
2. Secure Checkout
All transactions are processed securely through Stripe. Payment details are encrypted in transit and are never shared with sellers. If an item is not delivered or is materially not as described in the listing:
- Buyers may contact our support team at support@secondcatch.com within 3 days of delivery, and
- We will coordinate with the buyer and their payment provider to resolve the matter.
3. Shipping
All items are shipped directly to the buyer with tracked shipping. For oversized items, including long fishing rods, buyers will see a notice that shipping costs may be higher due to size.
Selling on Second Catch
1. Create Your Listing
Click Sell Your Gear and select the appropriate category for your item (rod, reel, tackle, or accessory). Listings follow a standardized format to improve trust and visibility.
2. Upload Photos & Video (Required)
All listings:
- Clear images from the instructed angles
- A blank or plain background, with no clutter or distracting elements
Reels:
- A short video showing the reel spinning is optional but strongly encouraged — listings with video have a higher chance of selling
- If included, the video must clearly demonstrate smooth operation and functionality
Listings missing required photos may be removed.
3. Provide Accurate Item Details
Required for all items:
- Condition (New, Like New, Lightly Used, Used, Heavily Used)
- Detailed written description of usage, wear, and functionality
Reels:
- Size (e.g., 2500, 4000, 30, 50W)
- Reel type (spinning, baitcasting, conventional)
- Disclosure of any mechanical issues or servicing history
Rods:
- Length (feet and inches)
- Action (slow, moderate, fast, extra fast)
- Power rating (e.g., light, medium-heavy, 6wt)
Providing complete and accurate details helps prevent disputes and improves sell-through.
4. Set Your Price
Sellers set their own prices. Second Catch may offer pricing guidance to help listings remain competitive, but final pricing decisions are always up to the seller.
5. Ship After Sale
Once an item sells, sellers must ship promptly using tracked shipping. Items must not be exchanged outside of the Second Catch platform.
6. Get Paid
Buyer payments are processed securely through Stripe and released to the seller upon completion of the transaction, minus applicable seller fees. If an item is not delivered or is materially not as described in the listing:
- Buyers may contact our support team at support@secondcatch.com within 3 days of delivery, and
- We will coordinate with the buyer and their payment provider to resolve the matter.
